Lubbock Regional

Written By: @JAE19528126

Texas Tech is the only program in the country to host a regional in 4 consecutive seasons in Friday’s opener they displayed why in an impressive 11-2 win over Army.

From the start Gabe Holt, Tanner O’Tremba, Josh Jung, and co poured it on. The hosts amassed 7 hits & five runs in just two innings on Army starter Daniel Burggraaf. It didn’t matter after who the Black Knights brought in after that as they got to each arm placed on the bump.

This Red Raiders Offense scored 429 runs this season while hitting .301 as a team. Both ranked in the top 20 nationally. They feature 5 hitters batting above .325.But it wasn’t entirely the bats today. Starter Micah Dallas was dominant tonight as he didn’t allow a hit until the 5th. Dallas struck out 7 in as many innings. Army scattered just 6 hits altogether.

After a Big 12 Semifinal defeat to West Virginia in Oklahoma City Tech re-grouped and prepared for this Weekend.

Holt (2-4), O’Tremba (3-4), Jung (2-3), Cameron Warren (2-4) all backed up those accolades with multiple hits against Army.
Respect to Army as always they just were outmatched. As a Patriot League representative they battled but didn’t really muster anything except for two one run innings.

Texas Tech (39-17) will face Florida/Dallas Baptist tomorrow in a Winners Bracket matchup. Army (35-24) will open the day and face the loser of the aforementioned contest in an elimination game.

Lubbock Game 2

Dallas Baptist University sits atop a hill overlooking Lake Dallas on the west side of the DFW Metroplex. Their athletic department is often overlooked in the Lone Star State. Few discuss this place. However, every spring their baseball team for just over a decade has turned heads.

The 2019 Patriots are no different. They were shipped up across the plains to Lubbock or they hope to get a shot at Texas Tech Patriots jumped on the SEC power Florida Gators and I lasted them 11 to 8 in a see-saw affair to get a chance at the host Saturday.

MD Johnson was roughed up a bit in just 6 innings. He allowed 5 earned in the no decision.

His offense picked him up courtesy of 17 hits on the night. Leading the way was Jackson Glenn who went 3 for 4 with three RBIs three other Patriots (Herbert Iser, Luke Bandy, and Andres Sosa) had a pair of RBIs.

With the victory Dallas Baptist (41-18) will face Texas Tech in a rare meeting between the two North Texas schools. DBU gets their wish with a winners bracket game tomorrow at RIP Griffin Park.

The Gators drop to 33-24 and will now face elimination as they face the Army Black Knights.
